Wednesday 14th August was a day full of excitement and adrenaline for over 20 young adult carers as we ventured into the heart of the Forest of Dean for an action-packed day of outdoor laser tag at Battle Sports!
The day kicked off with a comprehensive safety briefing, where we got to grips with our laser tag guns. These weren't just any ordinary laser tag guns—which were more complex than anticipated, but it made for an exciting game, nonetheless. We split into two teams, each with a mix of yacs — some who knew each other well, and others who were meeting for the first time, and once everyone was suited up in their coloured bibs and military hats, it was time to head to the battlefield.
Each player had their own approach to the games. Some embraced the thrill of the chase, running out into the open to close in on their opponents — often finding themselves "killed" in the process! Others adopted a more tactical strategy, staying hidden and waiting for the perfect moment to strike. It was fascinating to see the different approaches unfold and to witness the teamwork that emerged as the games progressed.
After exhausting ourselves on the battlefield, we made our way to the picnic area for some much-needed refuelling. We were treated to a delicious spread of hot dogs, pizzas, and cheeseburgers — perfect comfort food after an intense day of laser tag. Some of us still had energy to burn and joined in games of football and catch, while the rest of the group, understandably tired, chose to sit back, relax, and enjoy some conversation! It was the perfect way to wind down and reflect on the day's excitement.
While laser tag was the main event, the day was about more than just the game. It was an opportunity for young adult carers to take a break from their responsibilities, relax, and enjoy some much-needed time with their peers. For some, it was a chance to reconnect with old friends, and for others, it was the beginning of new friendships. But days like this wouldn’t be possible without your support.
