Carers Week - Alex's Story

My name is Alex and I'm 14 years old and I live in Cirencester. I help look after my mother with her day-to-day personal needs such as helping out around the house. I became a young carer 4 years ago when my mother found out she was disabled and needed a lot of help. Being a young carer has affected a lot of my life as I have had to learn a lot of responsibility at a young age.

My favourite part of Gloucestershire Young Carers is seeing and meeting other young carers like me. In my free time I love to just draw and relax while playing video games, and I also love to go into town where I live or go to one of the many fun parks. My favourite part about where I live is that it's out in the countryside it's a very pretty place to live.

The main thing I would tell other people about being a young carer is about how much it helped me mature and made me a over all better person.
