Winter Fun for Young Adult Carers: Mini Golf, Music, and More!

On Saturday 15th February, 25 Young Adult Carers took a well-earned break to enjoy a social event in Gloucester, starting with mini golf at Putt Putt Golf. The group played two rounds, with plenty of competitive spirit and laughter along the way. It was a great opportunity for carers to meet others in similar situations and take time out from their responsibilities.

After golf, the group moved on to The Music Works, where they could take part in karaoke, arts and crafts, and video games. There was also plenty of pizza to go around! Scott Bailey-Locke, Youth Participation Lead, highlighted the value of these events, "It was wonderful to see so many young adult carers coming together, making new friends and ultimately having fun! For many young adult carers, it is difficult to find time to look after themselves and spend time with friends so events like today are so important to give those young people a break and give them the opportunity to be young people again."

Feedback from the group reinforced this…

"It gives me some time off, doing different things from my usual schedule, and I have a chance to meet and talk to other people who are similar to me, and can understand in a way that some of my other friends can’t/don’t."

"Makes you feel less alone with what you do and you just get time for yourself."

These events are an important part of our support for Young Adult Carers, offering them a chance to take a break, meet others, and access new experiences. This wouldn’t be possible without the support of volunteers like Paul, who brought those who would otherwise not have been able to attend due to transport needs.

Wednesday 12th March is Young Carers Action Day, with this year's theme being "Give Me A Break", highlighting the importance of rest and respite for young carers. Keep up to date with our social media to find out how we are supporting #YCAD.
