We are were so pleased that our young adult carer (YAC) residential was able to happen this year in the great outdoors of beautiful Herefordshire. 11 YAC's supported by GYC staff and 6 GE Aviation apprentices had an action packed 4 days with wild swimming, raft building, team assault courses, low ropes, night-time hide and seek, star-gazing, camp fires with s'mores and lots more!
The days also have lots of time for reflection, providing support for the YACS in their caring roles whilst giving opportunities to talk about future goals and workshops to tackle anxiety and stress.
Spending time getting to know each other, sharing experiences and supporting each other on the challenges is a really important part of this week. A poignant awards ceremony took place to recognise accomplishments from the week and a chance to write messages to each other with lifelong bonds firmly in place.
YAC worker Sarah said "The week was incredible for staff and YACS. It's a privilege to see the YACS grow in confidence, build strong friendships and open up to each other throughout the week. There have been plenty of happy tears from the GYC staff and GE apprentices who really bonded with the YACS. Thank you to GE Aviation for making this residential possible!”
Huge thanks to Karen from GYC for all of her help and support throughout the week and also to our volunteer drivers. We couldn't have done it without you.
The bags have been unpacked and the equipment put away but the memories, triumphs and friendships from our Young Adult Carer Residential 2021 will last forever. We are already looking forward to next year!
