When we decided to go back to Cotswold Water Park for our annual summer fun day with young adult carers we didn’t anticipate that most of the water we experienced would be falling from the sky!
We had 23 young adult carers join us for the day from all across the county. After getting a quite a drenching we realised that getting into the lake wouldn’t make us any wetter! We were booked onto the Aquaventure activity which is a huge inflatable adventure course on the lake. It was a lot more challenging than we anticipated but we had great fun first trying to get on and then stay on it!
After the activity we headed over to the lakeside for our barbeque. Thankfully it had stopped raining by then so we had chance to go for a walk, chat and relax whilst the barbeque was prepared. Later in the afternoon the sun came out in all its glory so we were finally able to sunbathe and warm up!
Many of the young people who attended had never done an activity with the Young Adult Carers Service before, so it was great to meet the new faces and for them to meet each other! Having a chance to take a break and meet up with others who understand their situation is really valuable for young adult carers, especially those who are more isolated.
We would like to thank our wonderful volunteers Kitty, Amber and Harley for giving their time and energy to help out. Amber said ‘thanks for such a fab day! It was really enjoyable’. Young adult carer Tom got in touch with us afterwards: ‘Thank you for all the hard work and planning you guys put in! I had an amazing time!’
