Young Carers Action Day 2024 is fast approaching - this year it falls on Wednesday 13th March. The theme is fair futures for young carers and its focus is on why caring should not be a barrier to learning, earning or being able to get on in life – but how for many, it is.
Young Carers Action Day is a key engagement point in the year for us to work with our partners and supporters to create action, influence and raise awareness for young carers and young adult carers. We know that caring responsibilities can create barriers for young carers realising their ambitions for education and employment and at GYC we aim to address this by supporting young and young adult carers directly and by working with education providers and employers to ensure they are ‘young carers aware’.
On Weds March 13th we are going to be having an awareness raising stand at Shire Hall so that we can talk with the many professionals that work there ensuring they are ‘young carer aware’.
In the afternoon we are holding an online workshop for Young Carer School Leads from across the county to help and equip them to set up their own young carer groups. This will include input from teachers who are already doing this and from young carers who have benefited from this type of support.
We would like our friends and supporters in the county to pledge their part in ensuring ‘Fair Futures for Young Carers’ alongside GYC so we can share this on our social media. You can download an editable pledge sheet here (please open with PowerPoint) or an non-editable PDF version on which you can write your name/org
