This year's Young Carers Action Day was busy!
We visited over twenty schools and colleges on our Schools Roadshow, emphasising the importance of working together to identify and support young carers. It was encouraging to see staff and students engaged in raising awareness and improving support for young carers.
As part of the day, we launched ‘Give Us A Break’, a collaborative film project with the Everyman Theatre. Young carers participated in creative workshops involving movement, drama, storytelling, watercolour painting, and zine-making in February half-term so that local artist, Emma Evans, could bring their ideas to life in the final production.
On Wednesday, 12th March, young and young adult carers travelled to Westminster to mark YCAD at a national level. They toured Parliament, joined discussions with MPs and key decision-makers on an open-top bus, and attended an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) meeting. These discussions ensured that young carers’ voices were heard at the policy level.
YCAD was a significant opportunity to highlight the challenges young carers face and push for better recognition and support. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making it a success.
