Carers Week - Ines' Story

Hi I'm Ines, I’m 13 and I live in Bishops Cleeve.

I care for my younger brother who has autism and other additional needs. It takes a lot of time out of my day. It is a full-time job so stops me from seeing my friends outside of school and also makes me feel generally very tired.

My favourite part about Gloucestershire Young Carers is being able to meet people in a similar situation to me. It has made me feel less lonely and has also helped me understand my caring role better. I now know who I can go to for help if i need it.

I really like listening to music, drawing, acting and singing. I love being able to go to the park with my friends and also the shops which are close by. I love going for walks in the countryside and all of the cool places I get to meet my friends.

I wish adults we see, like in school, would do more regular checkups, maybe monthly or weekly, on young carers mental health and just make sure we don’t feel alone.
