For our summer meet up of the ‘Our Voice’ young carers forum we decided to meet at Robinswood Hill, so that we could get some fresh air and exercise as well as doing some important forum work!
GYC’s ‘Our Voice’ forum is a group of young carers aged 11-18 who meet regularly to try and make a difference for other young carers and to help ensure that the services we provide and resources we create are young carer friendly!
We had a great session looking at our ‘Young Carer Aware’ assembly and seeing how it can be made more interesting and interactive! In the afternoon we also had a close look at some lesson resources that GYC are developing for secondary schools to try and educate as many young people as possible about young carers. We are hoping that when these resources are finished they can be shared across the country so that any school can use them!
In the afternoon we had an invigorating climb up the hill, some of the forum members decided they wanted to bring a large log to the top – which added to the challenge and required some fine teamwork! It was great to get to the top and relax and see the 360 views that Robinswood delivers! After the walk we went back down to find our pizza delivery had arrived – which went down very well after our hilly adventure!
