We share their account of the fantastic fundraising efforts here:
“With the worst of lockdown over and the possibility of undertaking a charitable event our Charity Steward, Bro. Adrian Smith decided to undertake a pilgrimage. The inspiration was the Camino de Santiago part of which he had walked several years previously and so the Camino de Glevum was conceived. It involved a walk from his house to the east of Cheltenham to the Masonic Hall in Gloucester and the date was to be the 12th December. Now all that was required was a dry day and some sponsorship.
The beneficiary of the money to be raised was to be Gloucestershire Young Carers. The sponsorship money started to arrive and so there was no question of backing out!
Come the day Bro. Adrian was accompanied by four brethren of the lodge who had been tempted to turn out by the prospect of bacon rolls and coffee at the start. The weather was dry which helped and four hours later the merry band arrived wearily at the Masonic Hall. Refreshment at the Crosskeys Inn would have been welcome but unfortunately covid common sense prevailed and all departed thirsty but with a sense of satisfaction at a job well done.
The money raised enabled Glevum Lodge to make a donation to GYC of £500 and a cheque for this was presented to the charity and gratefully received.”
