25 Years and Now Looking to the Future

Gloucestershire Young Carers have been appointed to continue to provide support for young people in the county who are in a caring role in their family. The charity was awarded the contract to support young and young adult carers in the county by Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).This news will mean continuation of the work Gloucestershire Young Carers have been doing for the past 25 years; work which grows increasingly challenging year on year. The charity will work closely with statutory bodies to identify young carers in the county with the aim of putting support in place to help the young carers in their individual situations. The contract is welcomed by the charity which will then continue with its vital fundraising efforts to put the most appropriate support in place for young carers once identified, support that includes respite groups, one to one mentoring, and activities and short breaks. They will continue to reach young carers and young adult carers and put support in place so they can have the same education, health and wellbeing and life chances as their peers. Ensuring young carers and young adult carers have a voice and can influence the services they and their families receive will remain at the core of the charity’s work.Ele Semadeni, Operations Manager for Gloucestershire Young Carers says: “The support that young carers and young adult carers provide for family members often goes unrecognised and can lead to widespread inequality in terms of their education, mental and physical health, employment and social life.“Gloucestershire Young Carers is proud to continue to work in partnership with Gloucestershire County Council, Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group and agencies across the county to support these amazing young people.“We have been awarded the contract with Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group to continue to deliver support to young carers across the county. One of the strong features of our bid was the number of opportunities and experiences we are able to provide for young carers BEYOND the specification of the contract, for example, additional group activities and day events. This is only achievable through the continued tremendous support and fundraising from our community and corporate partners and friends along with the additional grants that we win.”PeoplePlus Limited was awarded the contract for adult carers.
