Time to say THANKS to our Trustees
Trustees’ Week is time for us to come together to celebrate the achievements of over one million trustees across the UK.
What is the role of a trustee?
Here at Gloucestershire Young Carers our trustees are the foundation of our charity. They oversee the Leadership Team’s development and implementation of strategies and policies, ensuring we are remaining true to the objectives set out by our charity in 1993.
The knowledge, expertise, and experience that the trustees bring to the organisation is invaluable enabling the staff team to effectively and safely deliver support to young carers across the county. Whether it is leading the Board as Chair, overseeing the finances, ensuring good governance, listening, and responding to the voice of young carers, helping out at a bar-b-que or fundraising - GYC trustees always happily give up their time and go that extra mile for young carers.
What does it mean to you being a GYC trustee?
“My days out with the Glos Young Carers give me far more than I give them. It's a real pleasure to be with these young people, to hear their stories and join in their activities. I go home feeling very grateful for the good fortune I have had in life and hoping that I have helped them by contributing to a good day out, but must stress that the fun the day brings me is greater than anything I put in. If you are thinking about it, don't hesitate! It's well worth it.” Ros
“Being a Trustee means supporting the organisation in whatever way I can and being accountable for the decisions made by the Board. I take my role very seriously but also seek out every opportunity to have fun and find joy in the GYC activities I get involved with.” Becky
"It gives me a real insight as to how tough the charity sector can be, but also provides me with a front row seat to how caring and generous humanity can be when life hits these youngsters so hard.
It allows me to lend my expertise in any way I can to ensure that GYC continues to provide it's essential services across the county and it's amazing to see the outputs at the end through my volunteering too. The staff at GYC are so dedicated to giving the carers a childhood and the support they need to navigate life and it really has changed my perspective of how I view my own life.
As a financial expert with no childcare or charity experience, I never expected to be able to help as much as I have. It's amazing to see just what this charity manages to deliver to such high standards and so consistently and I hope to be able to contribute to that for a long time still." Matt
“This is a great opportunity to give my overwhelming thanks to our marvellous trustees for the time they freely give to support us. They are always there ready to lend an ear, offer their expert advice or give a helping hand. Their commitment to the organisation and contribution to our work supporting young carers is so very much appreciated. THEY ROCK!!” Ele Semadeni – Operations Manager
