Our valued volunteer spotlight this month is Chris Comens, who has been volunteering at Gloucestershire Young Carers for over 10 years. Chris’s first role was as a volunteer driver, ensuring young carers do not miss out attending groups and activities. In May 2017 she began volunteering at Tewkesbury Young Carers Group. Chris has written about her experience volunteering with GYC . . .
When I was a member of the Charity Committee at work we raised funds for GYC one year and had the pleasure of meeting a young carer called Owen. He was a very impressive young man and their talk persuaded me that it would be a good idea to become a volunteer driver for GYC.
Apart from driving the young people home after group, I have also started to attend group as another "responsible adult", just to keep an eye on what's going on and making sure the young carers keep safe and all is ok.
How does volunteering make you feel?
